Welcome to Chanucard.com, a gallery of my pun-filled holiday cards. I hope they make you smile, if not chuckle.
Chanucard.com has three galleries displaying the card history in reverse chronologic order. As you travel back through time you will see changes in both technology and media:
MOVIES - animated web page designs with sounds and music
GIFs - silent animations in a GIF format
PRINT - cards that (mostly) pre-date GIFs including a few never previously issued
HISTORY
My first holiday card was a joint venture with my roommate and fellow Dartmouth College graduate Ellen Brout Lindsey. Each 1982 card was accompanied by jar of homemade Peter Christian’s mustard. Try the mustard: it’s great on sandwiches, as a glaze on baked chicken, or for dipping pretzel sticks.
The holiday silliness started in 1983 with a “selfie” fallen skater followed by the 1984 Merry X-Moose seen above. The Camelabra is the first Chanukah themed card. After the Santa Claws Christmas pun, my focus has been on Chanukah. The cards include Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years when the holidays overlap or inspiration allows for blending.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
The cards are my original designs and, with the exception of three GIFs, are also my animations.
Thank you to Aedan Roberts for web design and adapting the 1991 “Catelabrum” into the amazing Chanucard.com logo.
Thank you Caryn Leschen for your painterly eye translating my Chanucars, Mano-rah, and Minnowrah print cards into the animated GIFs.
Special thank you to my husband and son who have supported my last-minute design charrettes with thoughtful edits, critiques, and invaluable suggestions.
Happy Holidays!
